Whitney Houston....You Were Loved
I was checking emails, and suddenly another popped up; I smiled as I recognized the senders' name.....a long time friend who always sends great jokes and inspirational words of encouragement. Never did I imagine that this time, the email contained a simple message: "Whitney died".
And now, we mourn her, even tho we know that to be absent from the body is to be in the presence of the Lord. Most of us will always remember what we were doing when we heard the news. And some will wonder WHY Whitney Houston's death is so hard for so many of us. Yet all of us will feel some connection with the songs included in the video below. She touched us all in different ways.
Maybe because she was mom, and now there is a child (Whitney's daughter) without her mother.
Maybe because she used drugs and it seemed like no one could help her.
Maybe because she was in a domestic abuse situation at one time and nothing was done to say "YOU CANNOT TREAT HER THIS WAY."
Maybe because we looked at her as a "celebrity" instead of a human being that needed help.
Maybe she entertained us, and that was all that mattered.
Or, maybe it's because she really did represent "Every Woman"----and there are millions of us who can identify with the demons she fought against.
We all saw a beautiful woman needing help, but it was different because she was WHITNEY HOUSTON.
Maybe...... in a way....... we all let her down.
Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012) was an American singer, actress, producer, and model. In 2009, the Guinness World Records cited her as the most-awarded female act of all time. With a total of 415 career awards as of 2010, she was one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 170 million albums, singles and videos worldwide.
Inspired by prominent soul singers in her family, including her mother Cissy Houston, cousins Dionne Warwick and Dee Dee Warwick, and her godmother Aretha Franklin, Houston began singing in the junior gospel choir of her church at age 11. After she began performing alongside her mother in night clubs in the New York City area, she was discovered by Arista Records label head Clive Davis. Houston released seven studio albums and three movie soundtrack albums, all of which have diamond, multi-platinum, platinum or gold certification.
